Bugisu Muslim District Council (BMDC) is a Faith Based Organisation that promotes spritual, moral and social development based on harmony and Islamic teachings. As an affiliate of Uganda Muslim Supreme Council it was established in 1972.
BMDC area of jurisdiction covers the districts of Mbale, Manafwa, Bududa and Sironko districts in eastern Uganda. BMDC has a total of 18 counties and a total of 327 Mosques. The administrative sytems is highly decentralised with the District Kadhi as head of the District Management Committee. The Executive Committee is headed by the BMDC Chairman. At county (twale) level, the County Sheikhs with their Executives represents the District Kadhi and at mosque levels the Imams with Mosque committees represents the County Sheikhs at the grassroots. The district council has five delegates (four councillors and a County Sheikh). For purposes of gender mainstreaming, the council has establishment a women committee.
